Temporary increase in odour at Camden Organic Resource Recovery Facility

15 December 2011

Recent wet weather has caused an increased level of odour at SITA's Camden Organic Resource Recovery Facility (formerly known as Camden Soil Mix) as the compost area has become waterlogged.

To resolve the situation, the compost area floor is being sealed using compacted coal wash.

The sealing process involves the movement of wet compost and some pooled water. This activity is temporarily creating a higher than normal level of odour.

We are aware that some of these odours are being carried towards residential areas to the north of the facility, and we thank our neighbours for their patience as we conduct the necessary maintenance to the site.

It is anticipated that the work will be completed within the next seven days and once normal operations resume, odours will be significantly reduced.
