Sponsorship

We are committed to sponsoring a range of community activities and programs. Some of the initiatives we have supported include:

Local Government Environment Awards

We have been a proud sponsor of the
Local Government and Shires Association (LGSA) Waste Management Award as part of the annual Environment Awards.

Blacktown Garden Competition

Since 2005, we have been the presenting partner of the
Blacktown City Garden Competition. The awards are held each year to recognise that best gardens in Blacktown City based on overall appearance, general condition of plants and gardens and design.

Clean Up Australia Day

Since 1990, we has accepted, free of charge, all waste collected by Sydney councils on
Clean Up Australia Day. In 2008, 7,000 tonnes of waste were cleared from around 6,000 sites across Australia!

Keep Australia Beautiful

We are the foundation sponsor of the Waste Watchers
Program run by Keep Australia Beautiful. Since 1994 Waste Watchers has increased the understanding of waste, litter and stormwater issues for primary aged school children across NSW. Through curriculum linked sessions, simple yet effective messages are communicated to over 30,000 students a year. Our sponsorship goes towards production of educational and display material, employing educators and transport costs.

The Waste Watchers program is designed to support Local Government Authorities in educating their local community in waste issues that are specific to their locality. Participation in the Waste Watchers sessions empowers students with the knowledge and skills to educate and influence their families as well as adopting practices in their home environment, which have been explored and demonstrated through the program.

We also partner with Keep Australia Beautiful through sponsorship of the
Clean Beach Challenge. This competition aims to enhance beachside communities by promoting personal initiative, civic pride and environmental awareness and the program awards provide recognition to people who care for their community and coastal environment. The Resource Recovery Award we sponsor is granted for outstanding accomplishment in resource recovery and management and for initiatives by community, business and/or local government in promoting resource recovery, managing waste materials and reducing packaging to protect our coastal environments.

Revolve Shop

Products brought to the Resource Recovery Centre at Eastern Creek that are in good condition are now resold at a “Revolve Shop” on site. All proceeds from the shop go to the Cumberland Zone Rural Fire Service to help train local volunteers.

Barden Ridgebacks

We sponsor the Barden Ridgebacks Sports Club's
soccer and netball teams, whose members play on sports fields developed at the rehabilitated landfill at Lucas Heights.

Support for National Tree Day

Each year our nursery at Lucas Heights donates native seedlings to local school and community groups such as the
Gandangara Local Aboriginal Land Council to plant on Planet Ark’s National Tree Day. In 2009-2010 we provided 5,785 seedlings for planting. The nursery commenced operation in 1994 to provide native plants for revegetation of completed areas of the Lucas Heights landfill through collection and propagation of local seeds.
